I’ll put more up in the photo gallery, but the new telephoto lens make all the difference at the Wild Animal Park.

While I’m on the subject, I have to say how proud I am of San Diego in general, and the Zoological Society in specific. Not only are they saving endangered species, and educating the public in an entertaining manner [my enjoyment of the two parks is not a Victorian sense of domination, but of visual entertainment combined with relaxed learning of different species], but they are self-supporting with admission, Zoological membership dues, and fund-raising.

Don’t bother clicking on the image, I scaled too far, the “full-sized” image isn’t much larger than the thumbnail. Again, I’ll post a whole album of this trip at the photo gallery (http://jas.philepile.com/photos).

I briefly considered the concept in this pamphlet, but came to a few conclusions pretty quickly:

  1. Reconciling science and religion isn’t a goal of mine. I’m okay with non-overlapping magisterium, and have little use for religion to begin with.
  2. The evidence for the earth going around the sun [and the sun going around the center of the galaxy] is compelling enough for me. “Galileo said it, I believe it, that settles it”, to paraphrase a religious bumper sticker I once saw.
  3. I resent the suggestion that I’m not “open minded” when I consider a concept, and decide to reject it.

Contender for strangest Christmas present…

Nothing says love like Real Estate, I guess, but the mind boggles as to what John and I are going to do with 2.5 acres in Deming, New Mexico.  I have to say, owning property free-hold is novel.  Plenty of mortgages, but never an actual deed (with signatures obscured):Deed of
